So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith.

Galatians 3:24 (ESV)

For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

Wednesday Evening Bible Study

For the next six Wednesday evenings we will be studying the apostle Paul's letter to the believers in Galatia. Galatians stands as Paul’s passionate testimony that salvation is a gift of God’s grace. It is unearned and undeserved, and must be received by faith alone. Paul is careful not to turn faith into a work.(Galatians 3:3) This view of salvation so strongly gripped the apostle that if someone offered a different doctrine, “let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8).

Join with us as we journey through the timeless encouragement presented in this Holy Spirit inspired document.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul?

WHEN the Psalmist (Psalm 42:5) gave utterance to these words, his spirit was dejected and his heart was heavy within him. In the checkered career of David there was not a little which was calculated to sadden and depress: the cruel persecutions of Saul, who hunted him as a partridge upon the mountains, the treachery of his trusted friend Ahithophel, the perfidy of Absalom, and the remembrance of his own sins, were enough to overwhelm the stoutest. And David was a man of like passions with us: he was not always upon the mountain-top of joy, but sometimes spent seasons in the slough of despond and the gorge of gloom. But David did not give way to despair, nor succumb to his sorrows.
